Dave and Shelley's Story Or How We Found Our Soulmate Online
Part 3

After two years of e-mail only, they finally meet.

"In the Spring of 1998, we decided to meet at a local restaurant. I suggested that we meet in the lounge. I had determined that she had a child out of school and so did I, so I figured that she ought to be of legal age to obtain admittance to the lounge-area."

"He refused to tell me what he was going to wear, or any clues that I would be able to determine who he was. He just said to come in and look for him and that I would know when I saw him."

"There's really no psychic ability at work, here. As a businessman, I routinely meet other businesspeople in public places. Identifying one person looking for another is relatively easy. I knew that if a woman stood at the entrance, looking around for someone in particular, that she would be Wilma."

"This was not a romantic meeting. This was just two friends meeting for a drink. I showed up fashionably late because there was no way I was going to show up there before he did. So, I walked into the lounge and looked around to find him."

"So, standing in the doorway is Shelley, in a denim dress, looking around. I knew her! Wilma was someone that I already knew! We made eye contact and I smiled and motioned her over to my table."

"We were speechless. I think the only thing that we said for the first five minutes was, "Oh, my god..." I knew Dave. We had some times in our lives where our lives crossed paths and I also knew that there was no way that I would be interested in him in a romantic way, especially after finding out who he was. Plus, he was a few years younger than me and I'd never go out with someone younger.

We talked for about four hours, had a few drinks and a cheeseburger. We were amazed and we exchanged phone numbers."

"Our main emphasis was not to focus on anything romantic and we stayed true to that. I didn't think that I stood a chance with her after I found out who she was, but we had become dear friends. I couldn't help but imagine us together, romantically.

Now, with all the veils lifted, we had tons of things to talk about and instantly what was at one time vague, was crystal clear."

"We scheduled time together twice-a-week so that we could get to know each other better."

"I don't really remember how it came up, but I asked her to go away with me for a weekend to Port Townsend, as friends and she agreed..."
