Kent: Explain, first of all, how you met on-line. You were just chatting back and forth?
Dave: No chatting. I had an ad up on the personals and she replied to it and it was, "no romance," "looking for a friend," and that was the basis of it.
Kent: The key was, there was no pictures with these ads, right? She couldn't see a picture of you and you couldn't see a picture of her. You used an alias.
Elisa: What was your alias?
Dave: Mine was Fred.
Shelley: So, I replied as Wilma.
Elisa: I had a feeling it was going to be that. Were you really, sincerely, just looking for a friend?
Shelley: I'd been divorced for awhile and I had two small children and I did not want to endanger them or myself.
Elisa: So, you go back-and-forth and how long are you communicating before you find out what you really have in common?
Dave: We went back-and-forth for two years before we decided to meet.
Elisa: You lived in the same town but you've never met?
Shelley: We'd seen each other around.
Dave: But we didn't know...
Elisa: Oh, I see, so you're back-and forth...
Kent: It could have been anywhere in the county...
Elisa: ...having a conversation, thinking it's a stranger, but it's somebody that you bumped into at the grocery store before.
Shelley: Or just around town, or wherever.
