Welcome to Salem, Oregon
Welcome to Salem
I relocated to preserve my love, to Salem, Oregon. I had selected Salem
as my destination because of a financial opportunity available to me in white
collar management. Nathanial, Tabitha and Jaycie joined us in Salem. Albert, my
former stepfather, helped by encouraging me to get back on my feet. Getting
acquainted to my new business environment kept me from spending adequate
time with my girlfriend. Already frustrated and unwilling to wait until I had a
handle on things, three months after our arrival, she left. I further buried myself
in my work.

Lock Your Doors
I was in fairly good shape. I had an income source and I had brought my
album masters that were now ready for final pressing, plus scads of additional
recording with which I could construct another 12 or 13 albums of original
material. I was secure. I had also brought with me some professional recording
equipment for continuing my work in the Salem area.
Then one day, I came home from work to an empty house. Someone had
pulled-up to my home in broad daylight, with a moving truck, and taken ALL of
my belongings...(even the dirty dishes that were in the sink). Nothing was
left but the carpet, and that did not belong to me as I was renting. I had to
drive to the 7-11 to phone the police, because they had taken the phone, too.

Forced Retirement
That forced me into musical and professional retirement. I had to readjust
to the loss and rebuild a life again from scratch and the kids returned to Hoquiam.
After a couple of years of mourning I was asked to play at a company party.
It was not long, and the offers began to come in to play again. I appeared as
often as I could and drew close once again to my music friends of the past
(at least the ones that I was able to contact). I was feeling good about myself
and started looking for romance, now that I felt worthy, like I had something
good to give again. My son, Nathanial, and brother, Alex, came to Salem to
join me in the adventure(s) that would follow.
When Harry Met Sally
If you've seen the movie...don't be too impressed...you must remember it's
only a movie! I had this dear friend who was a woman. We were as close as I
was with any of my guy-friends, maybe closer. I had dated some and quickly
remembered how awful that was. (I kept thinking about that stupid movie.)
So I asked my dear female friend-of-seven-years to marry me. After giving it
some thought, she said, "yes" and we began our one year engagement. Then we
had the most beautiful wedding. We decided to begin building a family right
away and nine months later, Barin (whom we called, Barry) was born. This attempt
to embrace the idea of creating the perfect family was also met with tragedy. We
celebrated our first anniversary, then it was over (in the most horriffic manner)
and self-servedly, Albert, topped it off by stabbing-me-in-the-back.
